We are delighted to announce that Rear Admiral (ret.) David Shimp, Honorary Consul of Georgia for US-Georgia economic and cultural relations, has joined the Board of the Wounded Warrior Support Foundation.
After completing many years of service in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Shimp has been Chairman of the Maritime Security Commission since 2001 and Founder and President of the Black Sea Council of the Navy League of the United States.
Since its founding by Silknet in 2018, WWSF has established relationships with similar charitable foundations in other countries in the interests of sharing experience and raising public awareness of the foundation’s activities. Mr Shimp’s vast experience, both militarily and civilian, will undoubtedly be useful to the Foundation to further its activities.
The Wounded Warrior Support Foundation has spent over 1,000,000 Lari in helping more than 150 wounded military personnel, veterans and their families to recover from injuries suffered in the line of duty. The Foundation works with the Ministry of Defence’s department of Social Affairs and Psychological Support, as well as Georgia’s Department of Veterans Service and a number of businesses and private individuals.
This year, WWSF has sponsored several different surgeries and pieces of medical research, as well as helping to manage adaptation issues and needs of the children of wounded veterans. Four extremely difficult surgeries have been conducted in Turkey and Austria, which cost up to 400,000 Lari.
