As a partner of UNWOMEN, Silknet is an active supporter of women’s economic empowerment and for the second year in a row, the organisation has covered the communication costs of 50 women entrepreneurs. Throughout the year, they receive an unlimited internet package, endless talk time (on any local network) and unlimited SMS as a gift from Silknet.
Recognising the role of women in STEM fields, Silknet has again highlighted the role of entrepreneurs in light of this year’s International Women’s Day in March. The Silk Road Group is keen to recognise the importance of women in all divisions of the business, and particularly in tech jobs.
We are proud that both our COO and CFO are women, and that we are in a position to enable women entrepreneurs through our digital offerings. Access to the internet is a key element of communication for communities and businesses, and particularly for women. Research shows that they are more likely to work freelance and from home, making them more dependent on reliable connectivity. In the current climate, this has become more important than ever. The services provided by Silknet make an important contribution towards this goal.
Silknet CEO David Mamulaishvili emphasised: “Women are still under-represented in STEM around the world. As an organisation we may be ahead of the curve compared to other major technology companies, but every business has the responsibility to improve its performance, its accessibility, and its impact. We will continue to make it a priority to improve the representation of women not just in our business, but also through the services we provide to our customers.”
